What Is A Positive Mindset?

Lesson 3 Chapter 2

What is a positive mindset?

An excellent place to start for this short course is probably to establish what a ‘positive mindset’ is and why it’s so important?

The ‘Can Do’ Positive Mindset

In a few words, a positive mindset is one where you have a positive and optimistic attitude towards life in general. It doesn’t mean you never see the negative things and view everything, unrealistically, through ‘Pollyanna style rose tinted glasses’. No, not at all. It just means that you can see, no matter what challenges, problems and obstacles you are facing, what is right in your life, appreciate the things you have and can focus on what needs to be done to improve your life.

The truth is, bad things happen to all of us. But having a positive mindset enables you to manage those experiences better, and deal with the emotions that come with them such as anxiety, anger, frustration, depression and loneliness.

Why it is important

Put simply; thought is a form of energy. A very powerful one too. It can be used to propel you forward or to hold you back. It all depends on what thoughts you have and whether you focus on positive thoughts or negative ones.

They say ‘what you think about is what you become’. But I always add; ‘so long as what you think about includes some well thought out strategies and positive action.’ Hence this short course!

What are the effects of positive thinking?

Well, aside from actually making you happier and improving your confidence, having a positive mindset will also make you more popular, help your career, give you more energy, make you more productive and allow you to do more things, and, hopefully, be even more successful than you already are!

Plus it is also incredibly good for your health.

Here are some of the health benefits:

• Faster and better recovery from injuries and illness
• Reduce the risk of chronic disease
• Reduce the risk of memory loss
• Increase the ability to handle stress
• Positive people tend to live longer
