The Holistic Approach To Achieving A Positive Mindset
Lesson 2 Chapter 2
As a young boy, I suffered from terrible asthma and bronchitis.
Sometimes I would be sick in bed for weeks on end and miss school for months. In fact, things got so bad that eventually my parents in desperation ditched the steroids and antibiotics and took me to a naturopathic doctor who specialised in holistic medicine.
That was forty years ago, long before this type of approach was considered even moderately acceptable. But my parents had tried everything, and I was just getting sicker and sicker.
Anyway, suffice to say that the treatments, although a bit of a shock for a sickly ten-year-old boy, worked miraculously well and within six months I was the best sprinter in my class, fit as a fiddle and rarely ever even had a cold!
I won’t go into too much detail about what my regime entailed, but I will say that it was 100% natural and made me a life long believer in homoeopathic medicine, holistic solutions to treat specific symptoms and the power of positive thinking.
Having gone through my own health problems, my approach to restoring good health is pretty simple and best summarised by the idea of treating the human body as a whole, i.e. the body, mind and spirit (or psyche if you prefer). Basically, if one part of us is healed, other parts of us will heal too.
This synergetic approach is certainly not new and has its foundations in some of the oldest and most effective healing systems in the world, i.e. Chinese, Tibetan and Ayurvedic medicines.
In a nutshell, I have found, both personally, and with other people, that understanding the real cause of a health issue is the first and most essential step in the process of any healing.
Or as the pre-eminent Swiss physician Paracelsus put it:
‘Medicine is not only a science; it is also an art. It does not consist of compounding pills and plasters; it deals with the very processes of life, which must be understood before they may be guided.’
The second step to good overall health is to be positive, have faith in yourself and know you can achieve anything if you really want to and take the right actions.
The Holistic Approach to Achieving a Positive Mindset
So, given all the above details, it should now come as no surprise that this course will be using a semi-holistic approach to helping you achieve a positive mindset by looking at a few other seemingly unrelated aspects of your life.
But don’t worry I won’t be getting you to take any ice cold showers or eating raw garlic for breakfast! Promise.
